As the Department's cultural studies library, it enables users to familiarize themselves with the basics and methods of the discipline "on the shelf", to delve into the diversity of everyday cultural research areas, and in particular the department's main research areas. Students and researchers find out about professional fields, they follow developments in folklore studies, their discussions and paradigm shifts. The cultural, social and historical literature of neighboring disciplines as well as relevant publications from the English-speaking specialist scene are also given ample space. Displays of new acquisitions and specialist journals provide an insight into current research and discussions.
The pleasant reading room offers space and time to study literature on site. There are also two PC workstations with the possibility of catalog research as well as the reference collections with current semester literature. In addition, semester readers and information material on individual courses are usually available in the library.
Most of the literature can be borrowed for up to seven days via the online catalog Unikat.
Scanning and copying facilities are available in the department rooms on the 1st floor (Attemsgasse 25/I).
The department library is a reference library: this means that the books are mainly read on site. Books can be borrowed for up to one week (except for the reference apparatus and journals ).
Media archive
The department library also has a number of DVDs and CDs which can be borrowed from Friday to Monday according to the library's borrowing conditions. You can find these media via unikat. Otherwise, a list is available from the library supervisor. The location of the media can be found in the library supervision area and can be viewed there on request.
