The Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “Transnationalizing European Ethnology with Care” (TEEC) brings together students and scholars from the universities of Mainz, Prishtina, Zadar, and Graz to explore the role of care in European ethnology, cultural anthropology, and folklore studies from transnational perspectives.
The programme addresses questions such as how care has been understood and examined in different scholarly traditions, whose experiences and perspectives have been represented or overlooked, and how care can be intertwined with violence and unequal power relations. Participants will critically engage with disciplinary traditions and collaboratively develop an open-access, transnational syllabus in European ethnology as part of the European Ethnology Transnational Syllabus Collective, an initiative of the International Society for Ethnology and Folklore (SIEF).
The programme combines online sessions with an in-person workshop in Zadar, Croatia, from 14 to 18 December 2026, and an additional online meeting scheduled for 12 January, from 8:00 to 10:00 am. The language of instruction is English. Participants can earn 5 ECTS credits.
Advanced BA and MA students from the Faculty of Humanities (GeWi) at the University of Graz are eligible to apply. Participation is limited to seven students. Applications should be submitted as a short, informal email to Lisa Riedner (lisa.riedner(at)uni-graz.at) by 20 October 2026. Following a successful application to the International Office, travel funding of up to €400 per student may be available. Accommodation support will also be provided through a sleeping-place exchange organised by colleagues and students at the University of Zadar.
